Before a child can be registered for their First Sacraments or Confirmation, we must ensure they meet the guidelines set by the Archdiocese. If you have a child that you want to receive a sacrament this year, please review the requirements listed below carefully. If you have any questions about your individual situation please contact us; for First Sacraments and OCIA Adapted for Children contact Claire Gregory at [email protected] and for Confirmation contact Merrrie Guerra at [email protected].
The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston guidelines are that children be in Faith Formation two (2) consective years with one year prior to preparation and with the 2nd year for the preparation for sacraments.
Children in 2nd grade are eligible for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Even though the formal preparation program is part of the 2nd grade curriculum, 3rd - 5th graders (who have already been baptized) are eligible to receive these sacraments and attend their grade level class.
Students preparing for their First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, at a minimum, must have regularly attended Catholic Faith Formation classes the year prior to their sacrament year (this could be through a parish Faith Formation program or Catholic school). Simultaneous attendance at Faith Formation classses is required and monitored for all Sacramental Prep students.
All Students who are entering a sacramental preparation year; First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, must submit a copy of their Baptismal Certificate to the parish office, attention of Stacy Pavlik, by the start of sacramental preparation classes.
Children who are older than 2nd grade and have not been baptized or who are 6th grade and older and have not received their First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, would be prepared through the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults Adapted for Children (OCIA Adapted for Children). In addition to OCIA Adapted for Children classes, students need to be enrolled and attend their appropriate grade level Faith Formation class. Visit the First Sacraments page for more information.
Confirmation Preparation Requirements
Children in 10th-12th grade are eligible for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Attendance at Faith Formation classes during their year of preparation is also required and monitored.
