Three interdependent and equally important goals guide the Church's ministry with adolescents. These goals state what it means for the Catholic community to respond to the needs of young people and to involve young people in sharing their unique gifts with the larger community. They express the Church's focus for ministry with adolescents, while encouraging local creativity in developing the programs, activities, and strategies to reach these goals.
Goal 1: To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
Goal 2: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
Goal 3: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
We have implemented the LIFE TEEN and EDGE programs for our high shool and middle school youth, respectively. These programs feature systematic, exciting, and engaging curriculum that follows the faith themes put forth by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. We aim to educate our young people in the facts and teachings of our faith while empowering them to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. These programs give us the resources and tools we need to accomplish this aim.
Our goal is to infuse excitement and energy into the program while maintaining high standards of catechetical content to ensure that the youth of St. Angela Merici are learning about our faith and gaining the tools to live "in imitation of Christ" in their daily lives. How could the live in imitation of Christ without knowing Him? LifeTeen and EDGE is where the feelings and facts meet, with strong knowledge of what we believe and why, alongside opportunities to encounter Him and grow in relationship with God.
